New Jersey Installing 96,000 Induction Lights

U.S. Lighting Technologies' Street Light Cobra/Jersey Series

The Star-Ledger recently reported that utility Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) is installing 96,000 induction streetlights to replace older streetlights in 81 municipalities, including Newark, as part of a $50 million infrastructure project. U.S. Lighting Technologies is a key supplier to the project. Induction lighting was chosen for energy savings (30-40% compared to mercury vapor) and long service life (up to 100,000 hours).

LightNOW’s take: Growing interest in LED lighting appears to be increasing interest in induction lighting as a long-life alternative for applications where maintenance is difficult or presents a high cost. The cost of induction lighting appears to be declining, making it more attractive.
